Unified
interface integrates structured information
(5250) with unstructured documents, images
and spreadsheets.
Examples of dynamic webfacing features
used here:
The
UI integrates 5250 ERP information, SQL
Server
customer
information and multiple desktop applications.
The RPG logic is unchanged – this example
of non-invasive modernization (requiring
no changes to the ERP application)
demonstrates how existing applications
can
be reused and connected to a smart UI.
The customer maintenance
UI has been modernized, presenting the
information
in a tabbed folder format. One part of
the tab interface is thes smart client
datagrid
that tracks the various documents and emails
relevant to this customer. The new features
directly reference newly added business
logic and an SQL Server database.
This new functionality
has been snapped onto the existing ERP
application,
providing the business user with a unified
view of the customer. It is an example
of
a composite application. The existing System
i legacy application is reused but improved
through integration with a new feature
that tracks and displays documents and
emails
for the selected customer.
The
datagrid can be customized to suit personal
information needs. For example, columns
can be resized or hidden with individual
preferences retained for each user.
Selecting
a customer in the 5250 ERP application results
in all related documents and emails being
accessible within the same UI.
Additional
UI controls like datagrids, calculators,
tree and list views can be incorporated
without changing existing applications.
Local
resources are used for seamless integration
with desktop, web and other
applications required for documents and
mail.
