What do you do when refacing is just too restrictive?
Asian Tigers is a third-party logistics provider specializing in relocation services including shipping and storage for expats. Asian Tigers, based in Singapore, used newlook to extend the functionality of their existing RPG application to streamline customer service. The new functionality provided a 300% productivity improvement for customer service agents, reducing typical customer inquiries from 6 minutes to 2 minutes and reducing call centre costs by $100k annually. The much improved User Experience was the result of a combination of refacing, a new rich client UI and integration with Excel and Word – all done with newlook!

So remember, when the green screen process makes refacing a poor choice, you can create a new form in newlook and connect directly to your business logic (your choice of RPG, C#, Java, COBOL, VBscript, or database etc.) See Asian Tiger’s new UI here.

Another approach worth considering is exposing a services layer from your existing programs. Service-enabling existing applications using soarchitect provides flexible reuse of your existing applications and a long term path to pure SOA. We’re pleased to see Gartner and Forrester are now advocating service enablement as the best path to SOA for existing applications.

Use URL parms for easy integration
Did you know that both our smartclient and thinclient support passing of parameters to a session via the URL used to start the client? By taking advantage of this method you can initiate smartclient/thinclient sessions from any application that supports URLs, including web applications and pass information, such as a customer number, which can then be used by smartclient or lookserver to navigate to a specific host application screen.

For smartclient, the syntax used in passing a parameter to the smartclient is here.

For thinclient, in much the same way as smartclient, the syntax for passing values to a thinclient session is here.
