lookserver supports smart, thin and mobile clients

Melbourne, Australia - May 18, 2005. looksoftware has announced lookserver which provides a server-based integration layer supporting composite applications and new zero deployment, and thin client support for any browser-based device, including mobile devices like PDAs.

lookserver builds upon the dynamic architecture used by newlook and centric to deliver an 'on-the-fly' development environment for modernizing existing iSeries applications. lookserver generates pure, web-based XML clients, supporting browser-based devices including PDAs, without requiring any client configuration or installation. A key design goal has been to maintain the ease of use and productivity that existing looksoftware customers and partners have become accustomed to.

looksoftware's Marcus Dee said, "A single looksoftware dynamic repository can support the multi-channel requirements of internal users, external users (like partners and customers) and mobile users. iSeries customers can use lookserver to deliver the most appropriate UI style without changing existing applications. Internal information workers require the performance, functionality and integration provided by smart clients. On the other hand, business partners and customers may need thin client access, while mobile users are different again. lookserver, thinclient and mobileclient extend our existing smartclient (or rich client) support to give iSeries customers a complete UI framework for reusing and extending their existing applications."

lookserver also builds upon looksoftware's support for composite applications. The newlook and centric developer tools can deliver new functionality and new UIs supporting heterogeneous database access, application layer access and web services support. Marcus Dee commented, "In the next quarter, we will announce further extensions to our composite applications support with the introduction of our first product addressing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)."
