Field Choice Values

Field choice values are similar to data entry fields with the exception that the user is provided with a choice of options, e.g. in the field Transport Required, type Y=Yes or N=No.

Depending on the data type, field choice values appear as check boxes, option buttons, UpDown buttons or combo boxes. Choices are combined to show a fixed set of choices that are mutually exclusive, which means users must select one of the available options or none at all.

In terms of recognition engine behaviour:

If an entry field has multiple choices without descriptions, a combo box is created. Good examples of screens that consistently exhibit choices in this manner are OS/400 command prompt screens. In these cases, and in many others, Newlook will create a combination box.

Note Many application screens do not include the visual clues described above, such as choices and their descriptions. To enable creation of your preferred controls, use Filters and Identify.
